midtown weekly

April 23 - April 29, 2018
Check out all the great things happening in Midtown!
More than 120 people attended the Midtown Complete Streets meeting which was held last week on April 17 at Westport Presbyterian Church, demonstrating strong support for better biking, walking, and transit in the Midtown/Plaza Area Plan.

Please take a moment to fill out the Midtown Complete Streets Plan Survey, whether you attended the meeting or not, to let the City of Kansas City, Missouri know your priorities for 39th Street, 43rd Street, Broadway, Southwest Trafficway, and Wornall Road. You do not need to be a Midtown resident to participate in the survey: the City is seeking input from all who utilize these corridors, regardless of your mode of travel.

If you have surveillance cameras on your home or business, please be sure to register them with the Kansas City Police Department's program, WatchKC.

Here’s how it works

Video Surveillance is a great crime deterrent and offers investigative leads in the event a crime does occur. Many homes and businesses have surveillance cameras installed. Often times the surveillance system might catch something useful when KCPD is investigating crimes. However, it may go unnoticed if the owner is unaware of the crime.

Once registered with WatchKC, camera locations will be mapped for detectives and officers to easily see. In the event of a crime nearby they can then contact registrants to see if any possible evidence was captured. Someone from KCPD will then arrange to obtain the footage at a time that is convenient for you. KCPD would never have access to footage without your knowledge. Participation is 100% voluntary and you can opt out at any time.

As of Friday, April 20, new parking rules apply to the west side of Westport on Friday and Saturday nights from 10:30 pm - 3:00 am.

In the continued effort by the City of Kansas City, Missouri to make the city more pedestrian-friendly, some new city-wide rules have been enacted. The changes will impact drivers who park on Westport streets on Friday and Saturday nights.
Hardened street barricades must now remain in place for the duration of the street closures. As a safety precaution, it is now prohibited to move the barricades during their use (except for emergency vehicles).

As a result, parked vehicles along Westport’s late-night closed streets (Pennsylvania Avenue and Westport Road) will not be allowed to move once the barriers are up. Drivers are encouraged to not park their cars on these affected Westport streets past 10:30 pm on Friday or Saturday nights if they want to leave prior to 3:00 am.
